We offer internships for PhD students in the areas of Data Science, Software Engineering, and Applied Research. Some projects are focused on building and others may have the opportunity to publish.

Every Figma intern is assigned a mentor to guide them through product context, company culture, and work expectations.
Learning and development
Interns can expect career feedback sessions and exec AMAs. Early career employees receive an annual development stipend.

Figma offices host regular intern and early career events. We’ve had boba mixers, team dinners, local outings, and office parties.

You’ll work on actual Figma products and systems. Early career employees can expect to ship after onboarding, with mentor and team guidance.

Skill assessment
Some roles require a portfolio review, take-home activity, or online assessment. Your recruiter will share details.
Virtual onsite
Expect both technical and non-technical interviews. You’ll walk through your background with a potential mentor or manager.
Interview steps by role
You can expect a language-agnostic coding interview focused on data structures and algorithms, plus a behavioral interview with a member of the team. More details here.
Come prepared to interpret and discuss analysis techniques based on data visuals you’ll see during your interview. Early career candidates will also present a past project. More details here.
You’ll walk through your design portfolio, then work through a design exercise alongside a design team member. More details here.
Be prepared for technical and non-technical interviews that are geared toward the discipline of the role. You can also expect to give a presentation on your PhD research or a previous publication.

We highly encourage you to apply to the role that most closely matches your experience or interests.
Our interns join us in a hybrid capacity, based in one of our hubs (SF, NY, or London). In-office days are flexible; you'll work with your team to find the schedule that works best for you.
Yes, all internships are full-time (40 hours/week), paid opportunities. Immigration sponsorship may be available for eligible roles.
We currently support 12–16 week internships in the winter (January start) and summer (May/June start). Keep an eye out for open roles!
