Junior Sensor Network Operator

We are looking for a Junior Sensor Network Operator to join our Sensor Network Operations team and support the day-to-day operation of Sybilla Technologies' Global Sensor Network. 

This is a hands-on operational role focused on ensuring that our sensors and robotic observatories operate reliably and that observation campaigns are executed on time and according to established standards.

You will monitor the health and operational status of the sensor network, execute routine and special observation campaigns, support troubleshooting and maintenance activities and assist with sensor deployments and commissioning. 

You will also work with observation data and operational systems supporting activities such as launches, fragmentation events, payload separation, station keeping, manoeuvres, collision avoidance, satellite attitude monitoring and catalogue maintenance. 

The role combines technical operations, observation execution and problem solving. It requires attention to detail, reliability and the ability to follow procedures while responding effectively when something does not work as expected. 

As this is a junior position, you do not need to know everything from day one. You will receive dedicated onboarding and work closely with experienced specialists who will support your development in sensor operations, SSA/SDA and optical observation systems. 

What you'll do 

• Monitor the health, availability and operational status of Sybilla Technologies' Global Sensor Network. 
• Execute routine and special observation campaigns according to defined priorities and procedures. 
• Create and support the execution of observing campaigns for different operational and customer requirements. 
• Monitor observation execution, data acquisition status and overall operational performance. 
• Support operational activities related to launches, payload separation, fragmentation events, station keeping, manoeuvres, collision avoidance, catalogue maintenance and attitude monitoring. 
• Monitor the timeliness and quality of observation data and identify potential anomalies or irregularities. 
• Perform first-level troubleshooting and diagnostics of sensors, observatories and related operational systems. 
• Escalate operational incidents according to established procedures. 
• Support preventive and corrective maintenance activities for sensors and robotic observatories. 
• Contact local support teams when basic on-site assistance is required. 
• Support sensor deployment, installation, commissioning and acceptance activities under the supervision of experienced team members. 
• Help ensure the safety, security and operational readiness of robotic observatories. 
• Prepare technical notes and documentation related to observation campaigns and operational activities. 
• Maintain operational logs, incident records, shift handovers and technical documentation. 
• Support testing and validation of new operational tools, procedures and system improvements. 
• Collaborate with engineering, software, data and operational teams to improve scheduling strategies, reporting tools, databases and operational processes. 
• Identify opportunities to improve operational workflows and increase automation. 
• Support research and development activities related to new sensor-network technologies and operational methodologies. 
• Deliver assigned operational tasks within agreed timelines and quality standards. 
• Participate in on-duty operations and incident-response activities. 
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of Sensor Network Operations.

What we're looking for 

Required 

• Higher education in engineering, astronomy, physics, computer science or another STEM discipline - bachelor's or master's degree preferred. 
• Basic understanding of the space environment and satellite operations. 
• Interest in Space Situational Awareness (SSA), Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) or Space Domain Awareness (SDA). 
• Basic understanding of optical telescopes, sensors or observatory operations. 
• Ability to follow technical procedures accurately and consistently. 
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to notice anomalies, unusual behaviour or unexpected patterns. 
• Ability to execute operational tasks on time and maintain a high standard of quality. 
• Strong sense of responsibility and ownership for assigned tasks. 
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills. 
• Very good written and spoken English, including the ability to read and prepare technical documentation. 
• Basic experience with programming or scripting languages such as Python or C#. 
• Good knowledge of MS Office or a similar office suite. 
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary and international team. 
• Willingness to learn and continuously develop technical and operational expertise. 
• Ability and willingness to work in a shift-based operational environment, including occasional night and weekend shifts. 

Nice to have 

• Degree in astrophysics, astronomy, aerospace engineering or a related discipline. 
• Previous experience with telescope operations or astronomical observations. 
• Experience with robotic observatories or distributed sensor networks. 
• Basic understanding of photometry, astrometry or satellite tracking. 
• Previous exposure to Space Situational Awareness, Space Surveillance and Tracking or Space Domain Awareness. 
• Experience working with Linux environments. 
• Basic understanding of databases and SQL. 
• Experience with Python, C#, automation or technical scripting. 
• Previous experience working in an operational or mission-critical technical environment. 
• Knowledge of additional languages.
